Lumber Spondylosis? Will it go away?

ok so i play i'm 17 and was diagnosed with Spondylosis in my l5 vertabrea. i did this playing football and i was told it would not heal. surgery really isnt an option at this point and i am playing football college.Will the pain ever subside or go away if i can keep my back strong? or will i have pain in my back forever
