Please help?

I've been single for two years and I know this is my fault as I am very shy and don't like making the first move. I also go out with a gang of lads when I go out and I think this puts people off. I joined a dating service, but there wasn't anyone who I sparked with. I'm only 26 and so I need some good conversation openers so when I see someone I like I'm not gonna feel too shy to talk to them.
